Two Kinds of Groups
Two kinds of groups are needed to launch a disciple making movement. They won’t appear instantaneously across an entire congregation, but by starting small and trusting God to bless and multiply the work, the Holy Spirit will establish the DNA of discipleship both among believers long in the faith and among seekers new to the faith.
The longterm goal is to establish two kinds of small groups, 1 for believers & 1 for seekers.
1. Disciple Making Community (DMC): a setting where believers a) mobilize prayer; b) study the Bible using the set of discovery questions; and 3) discuss how to engage with unbelieving friends, family, and neighbors. A DMC is for believers, because in such a community the Holy Spirit will help them: grow out of limiting practices learned in the past; and grow into disciplines that will develop the spiritual DNA to function as a team of disciple makers.

2. Discovery Group: a setting where a few unbelievers read the Bible together and seek its meaning by discussing the set of DBS questions. A DBS is for seekers, because in it God the Holy Spirit will speak to them through the Scriptures, which they put to the test by their actions. As week by week God proves Himself to be real and faithful, the Spirit draws the group into a vibrant relationship with God, and develops in them the disciplines and DNA to function as a team of disciple makers, eager to share the way, truth and life that they have discovered.
