The Reformation – Not Just a Distant Event

October 28, 2020 0 By Phil Bickel

On Oct. 31, 1517, in Wittenberg, Germany, Professor Martin Luther, nailed a poster to the church door, which was the bulletin board of the city.  The poster listed 95 points which Prof. Luther wanted to debate with other scholars.

That sounds pretty tame, even boring.  It wasn’t.  It ignited a religious revolution that change the world.  Let it shake you.

We stand 503 years from the Reformation.  What was all the ruckus about?  Theologians give theological explanations.  Historians give historical explanations.  But ultimately, the issue at the center of the Reformation was a personal question, one that people still ask today: How do I receive the forgiveness and love of God?

To answer that personal question, my wife and I wrote a short story called “The Healing of the Hardlies.”  It is yours free — simply choose the ebook format you prefer:

Kindle (epub) / Kindle (mobi) / Apple / Google / Nook / Kobo / Generic / PDF

“The Healing of the Hardlies” will make you think, even if you say:

  • “I don’t care about the Reformation.”
  • “I know little about the Reformation.”
  • “I already know plenty about the Reformation.”
  • “I dislike the Reformation.”
  • “I’m Muslim.  What’s the Reformation got to do with me?”
  • “I have a COEXIST bumper sticker on my car.”
