Trekkers tote backpacks. You don’t launch an expedition – or even a wilderness vacation –without the proper gear. For life’s daily trek, the God of the Bible outfits us with:
- Nourishment. “Man does not live on nutrition bars alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4 paraphrased)
- The actual life of Christ empowering us. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5 NIV)
- The presence of God the Holy Spirit. “‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.” (Zech 4:6 NIV)
- Rest. “At day’s end I’m ready for sound sleep, for you, God, have put my life back together.” (Ps. 4:8 MSG)
In light of these promises, ask yourself:
- Will I use the gear God provides to live my life to the max? Or …
- Will I depend on human wits, whims, and weaknesses?
